Shankar Maruwada

Shankar Maruwada is among the architects of some of India’s population-scale initiatives such as Aadhaar (digital identity system)  He has consistently worked on problems where scale, complexity and public systems intersect.

Shankar believes the real work is not jumping to solutions but sitting with complexity long enough to understand its layers, constraints, and leverage points. He sees leadership as an act of influence rather than authority, shaped by clarity of thought, strong mental models, and the ability to reimagine what is possible.

How Shankar supports Journey Partners

  • Framing the problem: Helps slow down, unpack complex challenges and identify the right angle of attack before committing time and resources.
  • Thinking about systems: Brings perspective on how large systems behave, where leverage actually lies, and how to design for scale without becoming operationally heavy.
  • Leading without authority: Coaches leaders on influencing outcomes through clarity, data, and narrative, especially when formal power is limited.
